Running GenoPro on a Mac
GenoPro 2020 is Windows software. GenoPro's FAQ says it runs on a Mac with CrossOver, Parallels or VMware Fusion and on Linux with Wine, and each of these is one more program to install and set up before you can open GenoPro. The FAQ also says GenoProX, a native Mac app, is still in development.
Genogram Pro runs in a web browser, so a student on a MacBook and a colleague on Windows work in the same editor with nothing to install.

How a family is laid out in each tool
GenoPro has an AutoArrange command. Its help pages say to use it with caution, because it may produce overlapping trees and long horizontal lines, and to select smaller branches rather than the entire GenoMap. GenoPro's site documents no AI features.
In Genogram Pro, the whole family is laid out by generation in one click. On the Professional plan, you can draft a genogram from typed notes with the AI assistant, then check and correct the draft before you save it.

Where the genograms are kept
In GenoPro, each genogram is saved as a .gno file on your computer. With the Online Backup command on the File menu, you can upload a copy to genopro.com behind a username and password, and with Send File you can send a file to another user's inbox on the GenoPro server. GenoPro documents no file encryption.
Genograms you save to a Genogram Pro account are encrypted on your device with a master password only you know, so we cannot read the copy on our servers. Genograms made in the free genogram maker are saved in your browser.

Drawing a genogram in Genogram Pro
A couple line can be a marriage, a divorce, a cohabitation or any other of the 25 couple types, and a child line is drawn for a biological, adopted or foster child, all in McGoldrick and Gerson notation.
There are 39 bond line types for closeness, conflict, cutoff, caretaking and other patterns, and each color-coded condition is drawn as a filled section of the person's symbol.
A PNG or PDF export can include a key of only the symbols and lines on the genogram, so a reader can follow the notation without a separate legend.

People, partners, children, dates and facts such as occupation are included in the GEDCOM file, but emotional relationships and medical conditions are not, so you add those after import.
Can I use Genogram Pro offline?
You need an internet connection to load and sync your genograms in Genogram Pro. On the Professional plan, you can download a genogram as a .genogrampro or GEDCOM file to keep a copy offline.
